We Believe...We believe that as the richest, strongest nation on earth, we can do better for our children, families, farmers, small businessmen and women, soldiers, sailors and veterans, and senior citizens. We can make our economy work for everyone - not just the already wealthy - and assure families that they will be able to provide decent housing, health care, education, retirement and safety to those they love the most.
We believe strong, healthy families are the foundation of our communities, providing all of us with a stable and prosperous future. We believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to succeed and the right to live free from discrimination. We believe principle-centered solutions and responsible planning are necessary to ensure our future. We believe in partnerships for peace, prosperity and progress. We believe all of us are responsible for the ethical, economic, environmental and educational legacy we leave our children, and that diversity strengthens our party and our nation.
We recommit ourselves to the wise stewardship and protection of our air, water, soil, forests, wetlands and watersheds. We believe that by preserving our natural resources, we are preserving our quality of life, our economic growth, and our health. We note that the Democratic Party is the only party that has consistently supported serious and effective measures to protect our environment and natural resources. We are committed to basic human rights, economic justice, and opportunity for all. We believe political power should be wielded lightly, responsibly and with full recognition that all power ultimately rests with the people. We are dedicated to encouraging public participation in decision-making processes.
The Berrien County Democratic Party endorses the religious freedoms guaranteed by the state and federal Constitutions and calls upon government to scrupulously honor every citizen's right to religious freedom while respecting the separation of church and state. Many Democrats hold political views that are motivated by deeply held personal beliefs. No political party and no extremist group holds an exclusive lock on such beliefs. We recognize the importance of religion and prayer in the lives of Berrien County residents and support every individual's right to practice his or her own beliefs without imposing them on others, including the recognized right of public school students to a "moment of silence."

Safeguard Democracy Without fair and accurate elections, our democracy cannot exist. We call upon Congress to enact legislation requiringverifiable paper trails across America for all touch screen and computer voting machines which are prone to tampering.The most reliable vote-counting machines currently are optical scanning devices which work, like multiple-choice examtesting machines, by reading filled circles indicating voter preferences (optical scanners are used in Berrien County).Our country demands and expects no less than voting access for all citizens AND accurate, verifiable vote counting.
