2006 NEIL STAEBLER AWARD

Each year at the Michigan Democratic Party's Jefferson-Jackson Dinner, awards are presented to outstanding

Democrats in Michigan.  One of these prestigious awards is the Neil Staebler Award.  Neil Staebler was a long time

Michigan Democrat; he served as U.S. Representative during the Kennedy years, was chair of the Michigan Democratic

Party, and in 1964 unsuccessfully challenged Governor George Romney.  When Neil died in 2000, Senator Carl Levin

said of him, "One of the true lions of Michigan and American politics has passed from the scene. His power came from

his honest common sense, good nature and commitment to Democratic values."

The Neil Staebler Award recipient is chosen by the Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party to honor an individual who

has given unselfishly of him/herself to the State Party and its principles. The 2006 award was presented to one of our own,

a tireless worker for Berrien County and Democrats everywhere, who, like Neil Staebler, possesses honest common sense,

good nature, and a commitment to Democratic values.

This esteemed award was given to our own Edie Minks, 2005-06 BCDP Chair!

2006 HONORED SENIOR CITIZEN AWARD

Another award presented by the Michigan Democratic Party, through recommendations by the 6th Congressional District

Democratic Party and the Berrien County Democratic Party, is the annual Outstanding Senior Citizen Volunteer Award.  In 2006,

the BCDP, 6th Congressional District Democrats and the Michigan Democratic Party honored BCDP member Clara Reybuck

by recognizing her as one of the Outstanding Senior Citizen Volunteer.  Clara received this recognition at the 2006 Jefferson-

Jackson Dinner.

Congratulations, Clara Reybuck!
